Sustainable Packaging Engineer (m/f/d) Dentsply Sirona is a leading healthcare medical device company committed to innovation, sustainability, and improving dental care. As part of our commitment to sustainability, we are seeking a highly skilled Packaging Design and Development Engineer to drive and design the implementation of innovative sustainable packaging solutions for our dental equipment and consumable products. This individual will be responsible for developing protocols for package design, packaging process validation, and package shelf-life testing. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and outside suppliers to drive new packaging technologies and strategies, with a focus on improving time to market, cost, environmental impact and advancing brand image. Key Responsibilities: - Develop packaging design, validate packaging processes and test the shelf life of packaging for external laboratory testing and in line with required criteria for assessing the compliance impact of changes - Working with the procurement team to evaluate new materials and suppliers, recommending new material specifications for sourcing strategy exploration and more in-depth testing, including contributing to the development of business cases for longer term category strategy updates - Advise R&D engineers and work closely with cross-functional teams including marketing, quality assurance and regulatory affairs and manufacturing to ensure packaging systems meet regulatory requirements and industry standards - Provide expert guidance and justification for conducting appropriate compatibility testing using a risk-based approach, utilizing statistical techniques and expertise for packaging analysis and validation, including collaboration with testing laboratories - Participation in innovation workshops with suppliers and internal teams to develop sustainable packaging concepts - Use appropriate life cycle assessment tools to compare the environmental impact of packaging solutions and, when selecting materials from alternative options, propose appropriate materials with lower greenhouse gas/carbon footprint that provide optimal and balanced benefits for the overall sustainable packaging program - This position may require travel (up to 25%) to support the project and may vary depending on project phase and status Requirements and Qualification : - Successfully completed university degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, or related field - Many years of professional experience in packaging design and engineering, specifically for medical devices, implants, consumables and/or dental products, or equivalent combination of education and experience - Knowledge of sustainable materials and impact on GHG reduction, recycling processes, and circular economy principles - Familiar with LCA tools and interpretation of results - Business/advanced degree with business case development and experience executing sustainable sourcing solutions a plus - Business fluent English skills (written and spoken) As part of our team, you will experience the spirit of an international and innovative market leader in the dental industry.
