The European Space Agency is looking for a Optical Engineer to provide support services to the Technologies Section at ESOC, in Darmstadt Germany. As an Optical Systems Engineer you will concentrate your activities on the following: • Support all development and engineering activities related to ground station for communication, surveillance and tracking applications, including optical telescope system design and optical subsystems. • Project management, specifically in the field of first Near Earth Objects (NEO) Survey Telescope development. • Engineering support of development and standardisation activities. • Engineering support of external and internal studies and prototyping in the field of optical subsystems. • Working in a dynamic team managing projects and industrial contracts. • Support project development, in terms of definition of technical specifications and statement of work, participation for design review as well as participation to factory and site acceptance tests. • Participation in the definition, execution and evaluation of pre-development studies by Industrial Contractors, related to optical technology. • Support in the definition of requirements for optical systems, and participation in preliminary prototype activities. • Monitoring and critical evaluation of activities related to optical systems development by Industrial Contractors. • Monitoring under ESA responsibility of study / development / procurement activities contracted to external industries; this includes engineering analysis, participation to reviews and meetings, participation to Factory and Site Acceptance Tests etc. • Engineering support to corrective maintenance tasks, for problem requiring specific technical background in optical systems • Engineering support to preventive maintenance tasks for optical systems • Engineering support to operations of optical systems. Requirements: University degree in astronomy, mathematics, physics, or another relevant Engineering Degree. Optical engineering experience ideally in a similar aerospace environment Project management experience Experience of Near Earth Objects (NEO) Telescope development desirable, but not essential. Skills to apply own knowledge to develop solutions to technical (mathematical and dynamical) problems in cooperation with customers and other experts.
