Focal Plane Systems Engineer We are looking for a highly skilled Focal Plane Systems Engineer to take on technical responsibilities for focal plane systems used in our clients earth observation instruments. These systems are sensitive across various spectral regions, covering visible to mid and far infrared wavelengths. Overseeing the systems' entire life cycle, from feasibility studies to hardware integration and characterization, this role encompasses a diverse array of tasks. Responsibilities: Develop, refine, and adapt technical solutions in line with customer requirements and allocated budgets. Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team, focusing on: Defining and justifying focal plane system architectures. Conceptualizing and defining interface concepts. Developing and implementing test logic. Conducting various design trade-offs, including thermal, structural, mechanical, optical, and electrical aspects. Coordinating related performance analyses. Providing technical guidance and oversight to subcontractors. Create and maintain relevant technical documentation, including design specifications, requirements, and performance records. Perform focal plane system integration and verification, with a focus on electro-optical characterisation. Contribute to technological advancements in focal plane systems and detector technologies. Support and conclude technical discussions with customers. Qualifications: University or polytechnic degree in physics or electronics, preferably with a PhD. Strong conceptual, analytical, and organisational abilities. Excellent communication and negotiation skills, along with a problem-solving mindset. Previous experience in technically coordinating multidisciplinary and international engineering teams. Fluent in spoken and written English, with a medium-term requirement for German proficiency. Experience with focal plane systems for space applications during the design or hardware phases, particularly with a focus on electro-optical characterization, is advantageous.
