Role Description
We’re on the lookout for a Senior Optical Engineer to join our team full-time in Berlin, Germany. You’ll lead the charge in designing and engineering our game-changing LiDAR instrument, from concept to launch.
Qualifications
* Optical Design and Engineering skills
* Laser and Systems Design expertise
* Strong background in Physics
* Experience in developing optical systems for remote sensing applications
* Knowledge of LiDAR technology and applications
* Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
* Master's or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Optical Engineer, you will be a critical contributor to AIRMO’s mission. Your responsibilities will include:
* Establish requirements for payload instrumentation, parts, components, or subsystems.
* Define technical specifications for optical systems, subsystems, equipment, and verification strategies.
* Perform optical design, analysis, tolerancing, and simulation using tools such as ZEMAX OpticStudio.
* Develop and optimize optical front-end systems for LiDAR and spectrometers, ensuring integration with other payload components.
* Build and operate optical benches, working with visible and NIR lasers.
* Test, calibrate, and troubleshoot optical systems to meet performance criteria.
* Perform STOP (structural, thermal, optical, and performance) analysis for robust system integration.
* Coordinate with thermal, mechanical, and electrical teams to ensure seamless interface interactions and optimize performance.
* Conduct trade studies and manage cross-disciplinary design, development, and integration activities.
