The role As a Senior Research Engineer at micropsi industries, you will help develop the core technology that drives our groundbreaking, machine learning-based, robot-control system, MIRAI. Together with the rest of our team, you will develop novel approaches at the intersection of neural networks, computer vision and robotics, and bring them all the way to real-world production. Your interests and skills span from current research in the field of robot learning to practical software development. In other words, you’re not only fluent in navigating the research landscape, but you also know how to create production-robust deep-learning models with common tools and libraries, and your experience in collaborating with others on larger software projects allows you to bring your ideas to our production codebase. We prize the habits of reading code, learning new things, asking for help and helping others out. You will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with our entire team of software developers, mathematicians, robotics- and machine learning engineers, as well as our team of industrial automation engineers who will be using the results of your work out in the real world. You will be working in a friendly, motivated and international team, based primarily in our Berlin office and robot lab. Responsibilities Cultivate a detailed understanding of the most valuable problems in robotics and automation, by working closely with our field engineers and product managers Read widely and deeply about past and current research in robot learning (robotics, machine learning and computer vision) Share your knowledge with the rest of the team, understand what everyone is working on. Help out and get help Help us discover new ways to improve our product MIRAI - make it faster, more data efficient, and give it entirely new capabilities Ship clean, maintainable and production-ready Python code to our machine learning and robotics codebase, in close collaboration with the rest of the software development team Minimum Requirements 3 years of proven experience with deep learning models for computer vision applications, with a minimum of 5 years of overall work experience You have worked with physical robots before, whether it be professionally or as a side project You have experience in solving spatial computer vision problems: applications where it matters where things are in space, as opposed to pure 2D applications like simple object detection Substantial practical software development experience, with an emphasis on Python, scientific computing and Tensorflow You own your work all the way from initial research idea to production-ready code: The definition of “done” for all of our projects is that it runs 24/7 in a real factory setting Related academic work Degree in computer science OR in a related field OR equivalent experience Nice-to-Haves Experiencing deploying neural nets on hardware in the physical world Substantial research record in robot learning or computer vision Benefits Thirty days of paid vacation Generous remote-work policy and flexible schedule Public transportation subsidy Personal development budget for training Discount on your Urban Sports Club membership Support with visa application processes and relocation Company pension plan (optional) Discounts on products and services with corporate benefits About us Micropsi Industries is a robotics software company that brings artificial intelligence to robots. We make a product called MIRAI, a first-of-its-kind robot control system that, using machine learning, supplies industrial robots with the capacity to perceive their work environment and adapt to changing conditions. MIRAI can be used in manufacturing, lab automation, logistics, and other fields. Through MIRAI, Micropsi Industries enables automation where automation was previously not viable, making factories more productive, workspaces more ergonomic, and businesses more resilient. Ours is a curious, friendly, no-nonsense team that relishes finding elegant solutions to tough problems, be they technical, mathematical, strategic, or design-related. We like to learn for the sake of learning. We put a premium on personal development. Micropsi Industries comprises about 70 people, among them robotics engineers, software engineers, cognitive scientists, business developers, and designers. We are headquartered in Berlin, and we have an office in San Francisco. The company is backed by Metaplanet, Project A Ventures, Coparion, Vito Ventures, Merck Ventures, Vsquared Ventures, Ahren Innovation Capital, Amplifier, as well as a group of experienced business angels from Munich and Berlin. In 2022, Micropsi Industries received the Deep Tech Award for outstanding achievement.
