The Innovation & Engineering vision is to develop novelend-to-end process-centric and sustainable infrastructure concepts, striving to meet or even exceed current True North. The team isworking against ambitious targets concerning All-in TPH, VCPP,space efficiency (shipments per sqm / cbm) and embodied carbon. Theteam consolidates SMEs to cover complex tasks concerning yard, MHE,UTR processes, container design and sustainability.Responsibilities encompass designing Yard and UTR infrastructureconcepts, governing new builds or retrofits from BuildingRequirements Sheet to Design Reviews, developing functionalrequirements with ACES and WWDE, and supporting Procurement forvendor selection. Collaborating with NASC Engineering, the teamdesigns Middle Mile Nodes using infrastructural models derived fromanalytical work. This is a blue-sky role that gives you a chance toroll up your sleeves and dive into big data sets in order to buildsimulations and experimentation systems at scale, buildoptimization algorithms and leverage technologies across Amazon. This is an opportunity to think big about how to solve achallenging problem for the customers. As a Simulation Engineer, you are an analytical problem solver who enjoys diving into datafrom various businesses, is excited about investigations andalgorithms, can multi-task, and can credibly interface betweenscientists, engineers and business stakeholders. Your expertise insynthesizing and communicating insights and recommendations toaudiences of varying levels of technical sophistication will enableyou to answer specific business questions and innovate for thefuture. As a Simulation Engineer, you will apply designs andmethodologies for complex use cases across Middle Mile network todrive innovation. In addition, you will contribute to the end statevision for simulation and experimentation of future Sort Centers atAmazon. The role will be based in Germany with 10% of timetraveling across European Middle Mile Nodes and corporate offices -predominantly working from the assigned office Key jobresponsibilities • Design, develop, and simulate engineeringsolutions for complex yard and material handling challengesconsidering human/equipment interactions for the Last Mile network• Lead and coordinate simulation efforts for optimal solutionsthrough equipment specification, material flow, process design, ergonomics, associate experience, operational considerations andsite layout • The candidate must have the ability to work withdiverse customer groups to solve business problems and provide datasolutions that are organized and simple to understand • Workingclose with team internal and external Subject Matter Experts todrive analyze simulation results • Working with technical andnon-technical customers to design experiments, simulations, andcommunicate results • Develop, document and update simulationstandards, including standard results reports • Create basic tohighly advanced models and run "what-if" scenarios to help drive tooptimal solutions • Work closely with internal teams to ensure thatevery detail is thought through and documented using StandardOperating Procedures and/or structured change control •Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectivelyinfluencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal andexternal business partners • Conduct post-mortem on simulations, after implementation of new designs, in partnering with Safety andOperations A day in the life Starting from the Inbound vehicle andvolume profile, indicators of the to be processed volume hourlydistribution is available. This is the starting point for processcentric design. Working backwards from minimum manual interactionswith shipments, the Simulation Engineer has to create material flowconcepts and evaluate them against True North processes, productivity and costs. Through simulation, specific business caseswill be modeled by the Simulation Engineer and assessed withinternal and external subject matter experts. Through simulation ofalternative scenarios and identified areas to improve, conceptswill be validated. An in depth report including clearrecommendations and actions to meet the desired state will closethe loop.
