Hauptaufgaben
Serves as a primary point of contact with the German Bauamt project engineer and on occasion must deal with LBD (Landesbaudirektion) personnel to obtain construction and as-built drawings and other documents. Ensures adherence to safety program by checking work areas, methods of performing, etc., for safe work practices. Where necessary, may stop work in instances of unsafe practices on direct projects, or negotiate with the Project Manager representative on indirect projects to stop work. Interprets contract specifications pertaining to construction phase, and determines whether construction meets contract requirements. As an experienced civil engineer performs professional engineering work within the various phases of construction, maintenance, repair and alteration projects executed by contractors. Independently designs plans, works out specifications and cost estimates for the execution of maintenance, repair, including major-maintenance, alterations and new projects by own workforce or contractors. Adapts and interprets general fund of background data and information and applies creative thinking in devising ways to accomplish the work. Makes, sound engineering compromises and decisions when confronted with a variety of complex problem. Surveys existing facilities or job sites takes measurements and makes rough sketches. Studies feasibility and practicability of requested work and recommends alteration of project considering size requirements, accessibility of equipment for operation and repair type and use of buildings, etc. Makes calculations as to required capacity. Participates in discussions with originators suggesting alternatives to warrant adequate execution of work and to achieve maximum results. Keeps informed on latest development to determine proper type and quantity of apparatus and equipment to be installed. Contacts contractor's representative, explaining contractual conditions and interpreting specifications to avoid misunderstandings that might result in inferior execution. Provides assistance and guidance to personnel in charge of projects in the handling of special problem. Closely scrutinizes and product of work as last measure to determine completion in accordance with plans and specifications. Participates in final acceptance of completed work as to acceptability of workmanship.
Performs other duties as assigned.

E&T Levels I thru IV: not creditable for positions in this occupational series.
E&T Level V: Applicants for positions in this series are required to be graduates from a Fachhochschule, a Berufsakademie, or a Technische Hochschule as an Engineer in the discipline specifically required for the position. Graduates must be fully recognized by German authorities to practice the engineering profession in Germany. Applicants from foreign countries must obtain an equivalent certification from pertinent German authorities that certifies recognition to practice the engineering profession in the area of specialization of the position.
• German driver's license class B desired.
• Office automation skills are required.
LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVEL:
English AND German Language Proficiency level B2 required.

• This is a temporary full-time position (38.5 hrs /week) until return of permanent incumbent, not to exceed 26 .December 2026.
• The incumbent of this position is occasionally required to perform TDY (Temporary Duty Travel).
• Employee may perform the work at a location away from the regular worksite (e.g. at home) on a non-routine, ad-hoc basis. This includes work performed to complete a short-term special assignment or to accommodate special circumstances.
