We are currently looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer (m/w/d) in Monheim am Rhein.
The person hired for this position will support and grow the Ecolab Dishmachine Program (EDP). This role in RD&E supports a new program ranging from small undercounter style machines to large continuous operation conveyor machines. In this position, you will lead and execute a variety of engineering projects with a focus on new product development and commercialization of new dishmachines or dishmachine system technologies. Work involves development of innovative digital & electromechanical systems, component and fabricated part design, reliability and performance analysis, integration testing, transfer to and support for manufacturing, regulatory certification, project management and collaboration with cross-functional business partners. This role focuses on creating innovative products that improve the customer experience while improving safety, reliability, and value.
Main Responsibilities:
* Work as a technical expert in mechanical engineering domain, responsible for technical solutions and engineering specifications. Lead standardizations of mechanical design process, optimize and popularize design best practices.
* Lead project plan/execution in system architecture strategy, engineering proposal as well as mechanical design, development, qualification, validation to ensure system level functionality, performance, safety and quality.
* Interact with various customers (internal and external) to identify needs and gaps in the current plans and portfolio.
* Lead and support cross-functional teams in development of new product offerings.
* Communicate plans and progress to broad group of business leaders.
* Plan, lead, and execute new product development projects.
* Test, evaluate and analyze equipment solutions to determine or prove performance and reliability.
* Develop and document specifications based on key performance criteria.
* Create estimates for components and systems cost and reliability.
* Help team to grow technical depth and knowledge sharing across product lines.
* Understand the market and collect/define customer needs, promote an environment of learning, address and fill technical gaps, and lead to buildup technical pipeline by working with division team.
* Develop new digital solutions to enhance the dishmachine value proposition and field support model.
Basic Qualifications:
* Degree or Advanced degree in a mechanical engineering or related discipline. BS and 5+ years, MS and 3+ years or PhD and less than 2 years related experience.
* At least one year of design, product development and manufacturing background with experience in plastic part design and sheet metal design.
* Demonstrated ability to drive solid engineering solution to complex problems using advanced tools, with deep understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Design of Experiment (DOE) and FMEA.
* Effective oral and written communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience leading projects or project workstreams.
* Motivated self-starter, able to work individually on projects.
* Fluent in written and spoken English is a MUST.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Strong mindset of project leading, agilely and persistently driving technical topics to final goal in collaboration with internal & external stakeholders.
* Mechanical design experience with mechanical system layout/integration and digital solutions (IoT systems & applications) is a plus.
* Experience in analysis of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and system design.
* Experience with various engineering design and analysis tools. SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation a plus.
