Developing innovative technology solutions and bringing them to application - that is our goal at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS. With our expertise in the development of photonic microsystems, related technologies including nanoelectronics and wireless communication solutions, we create - in flexible and interdisciplinary teams - technologies for innovative products in a wide range of markets such as automotive, industrial and aerospace.
The Center for Nanoelectronic Technologies (CNT) at Fraunhofer IPMS is engaged in state-of-the-art research on in-memory computing accelerators. We are looking for a dedicated digital designer to work on the development and optimization of mixed-signal FeFET-based accelerator systems. The candidate will be responsible for developing digital control systems, designing RTL modules, writing testbenches and integrating these into larger systems, with a focus on performance and efficiency for AI applications.
What you will do
* Design and develop RTL modules using Verilog or VHDL for mixed-signal accelerators and testing structures
* Develop and maintain testbenches for RTL verification; ensure functional coverage and efficient debugging
* Support FPGA prototyping: synthesis, place-and-route, simulation (e.g., Vivado)
* Write and maintain Tcl scripts for automation of design and testing processes
* Collaborate with mixed-signal and analog teams to optimize integration with in-memory computing architectures
* Assist in system-level digital verification; contribute to test strategy development
What you bring to the table
* Bachelor’s degree completed; current enrollment in Master’s/Diploma in electrical engineering or related field
* Proficient in digital hardware design (HDL: Verilog, VHDL)
* Experience with FPGA tools (e.g., Vivado) or ASIC backend flows (highly desirable)
* Know-how in writing testbenches and working with simulation tools
* Basic understanding of in-memory computing, neural networks, analog electronics (plus)
* Knowledge of Tcl scripting for design automation (advantageous)
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; structured and detail-oriented approach
* Good written and spoken English; effective communication in international research environment
What you can expect
We offer you an exciting topic and individual support in the preparation of your thesis by experienced employees. A motivated and dynamic team awaits you in a very well equipped, research and development environment. In addition, we offer you connecting points within the framework of your studies or your career entry, e.g. a topic for your thesis or the beginning of your career at Fraunhofer IPMS. We support you!
