About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Hardware Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing critical mechanical systems and components for our cutting-edge direct air capture technology. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of innovative systems that will help us reach our ambitious environmental goals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design & Development: Lead the design of mechanical systems within our plant, including critical components such as electrolysis and absorption towers, pumps, valves, and sensors.
* Collaboration: Work closely with interdisciplinary teams, including product development, manufacturing, and testing, to create efficient and reliable system integrations.
* Analysis & Testing: Conduct detailed simulations and analysis (e.g., FEA, CFD) to optimize system reliability and performance.
* Prototyping & Iteration: Build prototypes and iterate rapidly on system designs, ensuring manufacturability and performance in real-world conditions.
* Documentation: Create comprehensive technical documentation, including CAD models, engineering reports, and design specifications.
* Compliance: Ensure all designs meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, including those related to safety and environmental impact.
* Mentorship: Guide and mentor junior engineers, fostering an environment of learning and collaboration within the team.
Required Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
* 5+ years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong background in plant engineering, special machinery, or related fields.
* Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) for creating innovative designs.
* Experience with simulation tools (e.g., FEA, CFD) to analyze and optimize mechanical systems.
* Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to overcoming technical challenges.
* Fluent in English (German proficiency is a plus)
Desired Qualifications:
* Experience with plant engineering or special machinery construction, particularly with systems involving liquid mediums or high-pressure systems.
* Familiarity with industry standards such as Pressure Equipment Directive (DGRL, EN 13445), Operational Safety Ordinance (BetrSichV), and Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG).
* Expertise in component selection, materials, and thermal management for systems with complex process conditions.
* Prior experience in designing and scaling up technologies for industrial production.
