Presently, 23 navies totaling more than 600 warships and submarines operate using OSI systems.
The Role
The Systems Engineer is part of the engineering team that develops marine navigation and bridge systems for OSI’s government and naval markets. The Systems Engineer plays a critical role in the development of the overall system requirements’ design and definition for OSI’s complex products. The Systems Engineer will execute various system engineering functions throughout the life cycle of the project. The incumbent has experience in working with various organizations and system components (software engineering, hardware engineering, integration and test, production, manufacturing, and logistics) and can take on the technical lead of a project. This role will be apart of the growth of our new German office in Kiel.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develops system designs, defines systems architecture, defines interfaces and specification, performs trade-studies and documents the design by writing SSDD, ICDs, SRS
2. Performs requirement analysis, traceability and maintenance of requirements
3. Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system
4. Identifies, analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies
5. Develops and recommends corrective actions
6. Designs to government standards, including Military and IMO standards, ensuring ongoing compliance and adherence to requirements
7. Ensures availability, reliability and other logistics support considerations are part of the system design process
8. Reviews obsolescence issues and recommends design changes
9. Develops design concepts and generates technical proposal in response to Request for Quotation (RFQ)
10. May lead during customer design reviews and acceptance events
11. May lead during system integration tests, trials, and acceptance tests at customer facilities
12. Writes acceptance test procedures
13. Manages scope of work, schedules work, estimates effort and costs, and identifies technical risks; effectively communicates status on a regular basis to management
14. Works in both a team environment and independently with minimum supervision
15. Mentors other system engineers, may co-ordinate activities of other personnel.
You Bring
16. Degree in Engineering or Physics, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
17. 8 years engineering experience, minimum 6 years’ experience in Systems Engineering; Experience in marine electronics and integrated bridge systems a significant asset;
18. Experience in defense or government domain preferably in naval ship sector a significant asset;
19. Experience leading a team of Engineers on projects;
20. Proven track record in the timely delivery of engineering related projects;
21. Strong knowledge of marine navigation and tactical sensors or systems;
22. Excellent knowledge of Systems Engineering principles, standards and best practices;
23. Working experience in network design and architecture;
24. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
25. Familiarity with requirements and verification management tools such as DOORS;
26. Knowledge of safety engineering and human factors engineering is an asset.
27. Eligible to obtain and maintain a location relevant security clearance;
28. Willingness and ability to travel
