Description Background Office/Unit/Project Description The Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy (BERA) is responsible for positioning UNDP as the world’s leading global development agency, promoting its global authority and thought leadership on sustainable development and the interconnected issues of poverty, inequality, and climate change. BERA supports UNDP in building and nurturing strategic relationships and alliances essential to achieving its mission and leads UNDP’s work on innovative and diversified partnerships and ways of financing the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. It is also responsible for global campaigns on critical development issues, and coordinates and sets corporate standards across the functions of partnerships, marketing and communications within UNDP and leads on internal communications. BERA has a robust network of Representation Offices (Brussels, Copenhagen, Geneva, Tokyo and Washington D.C.), which play a critical role in audience centric communications and management and strengthening of relationships with Public and Private Partners to help build a strong brand for UNDP within the local ecosystem. In April 2021 UNDP opened a new representation office in Germany, which is a reflection of the complementary agenda between UNDP and Germany and the shared ambition of supporting country-led efforts to achieve the SDGs through the promotion of democratic governance, poverty eradication, stabilization and conflict prevention in fragile contexts and action on inequalitiy, climate change and the environment. The Office aims at deepening the partnership with Germany, increasing the visibility of UNDP and its work among German constituents and supporting UNDP at headquarter, regional and country levels in better positioning with German counterparts (parliament and its committees, Ministries, KFW, civil society, the private sector, foundations, academia, think tanks and the media). The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has been supporting the GRO through the provision of grants (FiT funds) for strategic thematic activities. Currently the GRO has three (3) BMZ-funded projects focused on several strategic thematic areas: ‘climate partnerships and nature with the private sector’, ‘financing for development and Integrated National Financing Frameworks’ and ‘digital partnerships’. In addition, the office is running a project for the enhancement of the Hamburg sustainability Conference 2025, also funded by BMZ FiT funds. The GRO is now looking for a Project Clerk that supports the planning and implementation of these BMZ funded projects. Duties and Responsibilities Scope of Work: Support overall planning and implementation of FiT activities under 3 BMZ grants, including the conceptualization of new activities. Support Project Management: Support the organization of project activities e.g. seminars, workshops, events (incl. conceptual planning, invitation management, correspondence with multiple partners, on-site tasks, light administrative support, in collaboration with Admin/Finance Assistant). Support project budgeting and expenditure and financial planning of activities. Support drafting of regular donor reports. Assist in Research and Data Analysis: Assist in analyzing and managing donor data to enhance strategic decision-making and partnership development. Support research on political developments, funding trends, and sustainable development initiatives. Assist in preparing briefing notes, official mission logistics, and high-level meetings, etc. Support in Communication. Support communication of project results through social media and other communication channels. Conduct online research and collect background information to support activity and mission planning. Support in building partnerships: Support the Fit Manager in nurturing the existing partnerships Support the identification of potential new partners by scanning German partnership landscape. Support knowledge building and knowledge sharing relevant to the assigned project. Required Skills and Experience Education: Min. Education requirements: • Completion of Secondary Education is required. or • University Degree in social sciences, Economics, Management, Political Science, International Relations, or other related fields will be given due consideration, but it is not a requirement. Experience: Min. years of relevant work experience: Minimum 4 years (with secondary education) or 1 years (with university degree) of relevant work experience in the field of development and/or in an international context. Required Skills The candidate should have experience in supporting activity planning and implementation, as well as conducting research and data analysis. They should be skilled in planning and organizing events, workshops, or conferences. Experience working in a multicultural environment—preferably within an international development organizationis essential. Solid computer literacy, particularly in Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel), is also required and should be demonstrated through prior work experience. Desired Skills In addition to the core competencies, previous experience or knowledge of working with UNDP is considered an asset. Experience with social media and other communication channels is also desired. Required Language(s): Fluency in English and German (oral and written) is required.
