About the role
The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for the design, project management and delivery of civil, road and drainage projects from start to finish. The role is for a technical senior designer to design civil projects using CAD and civil design software, such as Civil 3D, Civil Site Design or equivalent.
Experience in project management, design management, procurement and contract administration will be highly valued, to manage external consultants and construction contractors. The role will consist of a combination of technical design (predominantly) and project management duties.
There is a very large dollar value, multi-year capital works program consisting of road reconstructions, drainage upgrades, integrated water management projects, stormwater harvesting systems, water sensitive urban designs and a variety of civil engineering projects.
The Capital Works Planning and Delivery Branch at Merri-bek City Council is very customer focused and has a high performing team delivering on the capital works program.
We are seeking passionate, driven and skilled individuals to deliver organisational goals and the capital works program.
Skills and experience required to perform the role
* Tertiary qualification in civil engineering recognised by Engineers Australia or equivalent.
* Professional Engineering Registration as per the requirements of the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019. For suitable candidates, demonstrated eligibility for registration can be considered and registration must be completed before completion of the probationary period.
* Proficient in the use of Civil 3D and Civil Site Design software or equivalent.
* Extensive experience in the design, documentation, preparing estimates and completion of civil engineering, road & drainage design projects, design reviews and checks of engineering drawings and documents.
* Project management experience to deliver projects from inception to completion.
* Stakeholder management capabilities to work effectively within the Engineering Services team, internal staff including Integrated Water Management, Transport, internal arborists and external consultants, construction contractors, general public.
* High level procurement, contract administration, construction surveillance/supervision capabilities.
* Provide advice as required on developer funded infrastructure such as Onsite Detention Storage (OSD), Flood Level Referrals (FLR).
* Able to work in a high performing, collaborative team with skills in leadership to deliver projects and outcomes.
