For our client RWE Renewables Europe & Australia we are searching for a Senior Engineer (d/f/m) – Energy Storage based in either Germany: Essen/Hamburg/Hannover, UK: London/Swindon. The work model is hybrid, i.e. remote work is possible with a high degree of flexibility, however, on-site presence is necessary based on business or project requirements. The project pipeline is well filled in all technologies: battery storage, onshore wind power and solar energy. As Senior Energy Storage Engineer (d/f/m) you will be responsible to work closely with RWE Renewables development teams European wide to conceive and design energy storage system to support RWE ambitions. You will be working very closely with a talented international team of developers, commercial analysts, energy storage modelers and engineering teams to develop standalone and hybrid solutions. You will represent RWE Renewables in front of external stakeholders (suppliers, customers, TSO/DSO, and regulatory bodies). This role will report to the Energy Storage Manager Europe. Your Responsibilities Develop reliable and cost-effective customer focused BESS designs in support of RWE energy storage development teams Mentor and develop junior engineers Submit and lead creative ideas to improve RWE Renewables value proposition in energy storage Ensure environmental health and safety in all engineering and design aspects of energy storage projects Establish and maintain engineering design criteria, applicable standards and specifications for BESS projects Responsible for the development, review and technical oversight of all engineering and design of energy storage projects Review/approve the work of consultants used on BESS projects to ensure consistent, cost effective designs and timely delivery Support procurement of BESS equipment by maintaining a continuous interface with Vendor’s technical personnel and performing technical bid evaluation to ensure compliance to specifications Support Development and Construction to assure timely and cost-effective resolution to regulatory, permitting and technical issues associated with the execution and delivery of BESS projects Support system studies of BESS during design and planning and ensure its proper execution during delivery Your Qualifications Bachelor, Master or Diploma in Electrical, Renewables or Industrial Engineering or equivalent education 5 years of experience with energy storage technology, systems engineering and integration, EPC Preferably experience in hybrid systems (solar/wind plus storage), Li-Ion batteries Planning and technical drawings created with AutoCAD on project level Strong knowledge of energy storage projects and industry trends with primary focus on batteries, storage and related solutions Beneficial to have experience with simulation software for grid studies like PSCAD or PowerFactory Energetic self-starter with excellent interpersonal skills Good communicator to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, both internally and externally Deep passion for decarbonization of the global electricity grid The following is a big plus but not a requirement: Experience with battery performance modelling & applications and working (and/or developing) with BESS sizing software Experience on BOP/BOS level (Cable calculation, Civils) incl.
