Job Description Role Summary/Purpose The Principal Performance Engineer within the Steam Power Services Engineering organization will lead projects and initiatives with broad scope and high impact and is a recognised leader in the field of steam turbine Performance Engineering including thermodynamic steam path design and steam power plant thermodynamic cycle modelling. Essential Responsibilities Demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of Performance Engineering. Integrates and develops Thermodynamics processes that meet business needs across the organization. Involved in long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within Performance Engineering. Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long range needs of Performance Engineering across all GE blading technologies; Contribute to the day to day operations providing technical leadership to the team supporting ITO, OTR and NPI projects and including design reviews; Review and Approve thermodynamics outputs as part of the ITO, OTR and NPI processes; Remains cognisant of state-of-the-art in the area of technology features, design processes and software development; Identify and recommend where improvement in the knowledge Thermodynamics is needed or where technical training is required; Provide leadership to help focus and integrate new technology into the design process including the development of the necessary software tools; Support other GE businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required. Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues. Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters. Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs. Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company. Lead and/or support study teams or RCA investigations to address various technical problems; Provide support and technical direction in all aspects of Productivity improvement initiatives. Qualifications / Requirements Experience in an engineering capacity with direct experience of thermal steam path design in turbomachinery and thermal modelling of steam/water cycles is required. MEng / BEng (or equivalent) u2013 Class 2:2 or above. Desired Characteristics Extensive experience of steam turbine thermodynamic design and power plant thermodynamic cycles; Experience managing complex projects in a multi-disciplinary approach; Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business; Problem analysis and resolution skills; Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in the field of Thermodynamics, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices; Strong communication and presentation skills u2013 experience successfully communicating with senior executives, both verbally and in writing; A positive attitude with high levels of self-motivation; Flexibility to travel to other locations in the GE network and to customer premises. _GE VERNOVA is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
