The Position
EY assists network companies, governments and regulators with specialist studies, data analysis, and the development of innovative planning tools and services.
We are looking for a full-time Power Systems Engineer to work at EY’s Digital Grid Team, to deliver power systems and energy related projects in domains of network modelling, DER integration, network flow/topology optimisation, planning and operation of both distribution and transmission networks.
This role is suited to an experienced power systems engineer keen to work on developing automation tools and processes to support the planning, operations and optimisation of future distribution/transmission networks.
For this Power Systems role duties and responsibilities will include:
* Support electricity system/network operators with Planning and Operation of the electricity grid.
* Technical understanding of the power systems and electrical components.
* Carry out power & energy network modelling and analysis, including load flow, fault level analysis, dynamic studies and optimal placement of capacitors.
* Knowledge and experience of operational and longer term electrical/grid forecasting methods and tools.
* Knowledge of Power Systems planning & operational grid security. Ensure the electrical network is safe and secure from voltage, thermal and stability perspectives.
* Knowledge of electrical network system coordination and control between transmission and distribution.
* Co-ordinate and actively engage with the client, understand their business needs, and deliver the project to a high standard.
* Manage the day-to-day activities of the project and co-ordinate with the on-site team from EY.
* Have a proactive and systematic approach to your work tasks
Requirements
Essential requirements include:
* As a person, you have excellent communication skills enabling you to convey complex issues in a simple yet precise manner, as well as presenting results in a professional way. Finally, you have a result-oriented and analytical approach to your work and enjoy working both independently and together with your colleagues and business partners.
* At least 4 years of relevant industry experience in energy sector.
* Educated with a Power Systems Engineering degree and/or with an Electrical Engineering degree including key Power System Engineering modules.
* Experience in conduction loadflow studies, contingency analysis, fault level studies, stability studies & harmonics studies.
* Experience in assessing the impact of Distributed Energy Resources on distribution network.
* Experience in assessing grid system security & reliability of the distribution/transmission network.
* Experience in developing network models for steady state and dynamic distribution network assessment.
* Understanding of transmission/distribution planning/operation processes.
* Experience of network modelling and analysis in one or more sector standard tools such as PSS SINCAL, PSS/E or DIgSILENT powerfactory.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
* Well-rounded individual with the ability to deliver work individually, or as part of a team.
* Ability to engage with Clients, forming long term and mutually beneficial relationships.
* To be the frontrunner (i.e. worked on complex energy networks project) & motivated in the green energy transformation.
Desirable requirements:
* Worked with offline and online electrical planning and operational tools such as DIgSILENT, DERMS, ADMS, EMS.
* Experience with coding in DIgSILENT Programming Language or Python.
* Experience in transient stability assessment studies.
* Experience of working with GIS systems, including modelling of networks in analysis tools from GIS database.
* Experience with the python API of industry standard analysis tools such as PSS SINCAL or powerfactory.
* Verbal and written communication skills in English and other European languages.
* Good knowledge of Power Systems and Whole System Energy Networks such as Gas + Hydrogen.
* Commercial awareness and pro-active in seeking out new business opportunities.
