When you add that to the challenges we take on and solve together, you’ll discover that at HARMAN you can grow, make a difference and be proud of the work you do everyday. About the Role The Value Management (VM) Team needs to increase the competitiveness and profitability of the HARMAN Automotive products and solutions by implementing Value Management Methodologies like Cost Analysis and Optimization, Design to Value, Modularization and Standardization, Supplier Productivity improvements, Target Costing and support the Project management, R&D, Procurement and Quality. The Value Management Mechatronics Engineer’s main responsibility is to identify these opportunities that results in product cost, feature or function improvements by using the Value Management Methodologies, which focus on existing product portfolios and new designs (RFQ’s), or improving product margins, while maintaining product integrity and quality. What You Will Do Analyze product designs for cost improvement in cooperation with the appropriate engineering disciplines and technicians in alignment with customer and federal regulations and specifications. Identify cost down opportunities concerning Hardware/Mechanics and Mechatronics in Automotive products by using Value Management tools and methods during RFQ, Pre-SOP and Post-SOP. Drive projects reviews for mechanical and hardware opportunities (analysis of schematics, HW components, PCB, mechanical design) Cooperate with cross-functional departments (e.g. Hardware, Mechanics, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, etc.) in an international environment. Participate technical communication with suppliers regarding technical topics, especially cost optimization measures. Develop and compile new innovative cost down ideas and check technical feasibility. Analyze of customer specifications described in RFI/RFQs or customer assignments. Support continuous technical & commercial benchmark of electronical key components together with HW experts and procurement. Analyze competitor solutions from the HW and ME perspective for different product groups esp. Infotainment/Connectivity. Prepare technical reports and presentations as necessary. Evaluate the feasibility and cost savings impact of ideas through cost estimating, technical and manufacturing feasibility assessments. Drive activities to deliver best cost solutions in order to have a cost optimized setup within quotes and products. Support internal VM workshops, compile ideas and check the generic feasibility. Investigate new components, substitutes, and technologies that reduce overall costs while maintaining or improving quality Generate cost take out opportunities and prepare alternate design concepts. Create cost estimations of sheet metal, plastic, PCB and purchased parts. What You Need Bachelor's Degree in Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline. A Master's Degree is preferred. Professional expertise in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering is of advantage. 5 years of mechanical and/or hardware design experience in the field of Automotive electronics engineering. Profession in CAD design tool preferred PTC/Creo. Profession in tools for schematic/layout realization and simulation (e.g. Mentor Graphics, SPICE) Experience in Display technologies would be of advantage. Expertise in mechanical development of automotive electronic products, and multimedia product experience is highly preferred. Experience in heat/thermal management would be of advantage. Expertise in PCB technology and layer-stack definition would be of advantage. General Knowledge about Automotive ECUs, HW components and their application in the overall system In-Depth understanding of the automotive product design and development process for OEMs Experience using MS Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex issues regardless of audience.
