The central objective is the development of marine environmental robotics and sensors for sustainable marine exploration, with a strong focus on the preservation and management of our planets coasts, seas and polar regions. The Air Sea Fluxes group at the Institute of Coastal Ocean Dynamics conducts laboratory and field based research, by developing and deploying unique, novel high resolution imaging systems to investigate submillimeter scale turbulent dynamics in multiphase environments such as the ocean surface. Quantifying energy and scalar fluxes across the air sea interface is crucial for a number of environmental challenges, including weather, climate and sea state forecasting. We are looking for an engineer for the development, testing and operation of a small autonomous research platform, equipped with a suite of measurement systems for lower atmosphere and upper ocean dynamics. We invite applications for an Engineering position in the area of Ocean Measurement Technology. The position is limited to two years, starting as soon as possible. Equal opportunity is an important part of our personnel policy. We would therefore strongly encourage qualified women to apply for the position. In principle, the full time position (39 h/week) is also shareable. Your tasks * development, testing and operation of a small autonomous research platform (electronics, mechanics) * development, testing and operation of wind and wave measurement systems to be integrated on the platform (electronics, mechanics, optics) * software and embedded hardware programming for integration of different sensors on the measurement platforms and execution and sling of measurements * preparation, assistance, and application of our measurement equipment on research cruises * software development of tools for effective data quality control and presentation Your profile * Masters degree in ocean engineering, mechatronics, electronics, computer science or comparable * excellent knowledge in electronics and physical measurement techniques * very good knowledge in computer vision and image processing * very good knowledge in engineering and technology of instruments * programming skills in, i.e., Python (cross platform Linux/Windows), LabVIEW, Matlab, C++ * high degree of initiative and ability to work as part of a team
