Job Description: We are seeking an innovative and detail-oriented PACIS Concept Engineer to lead the conceptualisation and preliminary design of Passenger Announcement and Communication Information Systems (PACIS) for the rail domain. This role is pivotal in defining system requirements, architecture, and feasibility, ensuring alignment with industry standards and customer expectations. Key Responsibilities: 1) Requirements Analysis: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and define system requirements, including audio, visual, and emergency communication needs. Analyze operational and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., EN 50128, EN 50129). 2) System Architecture Design: Develop high-level system concepts and architectures, covering core components such as audio announcements, visual displays, and integration with Train Control and Management Systems (TCMS). Design scalable and modular systems to support future expansions and feature upgrades. 3) Prototyping and Validation: Build and test prototypes or simulations to validate system functionality and performance. Incorporate user and stakeholder feedback to refine concepts. 4) Functional and Performance Planning: Define performance benchmarks, including real-time operation, reliability, and redundancy. Establish functional goals for multimodal communication (text, audio, and visual). 5) Hardware and Software Coordination: Specify hardware requirements, including microcontrollers, speakers, and display systems. Work with software teams to ensure alignment with system concepts and integration needs. 6) Cost and Feasibility Analysis: Conduct feasibility studies, including cost-benefit analysis, resource planning, and timeline estimation. Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies. 7) Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive documentation, including system concepts, architecture diagrams, and compliance reports. Present concepts and progress to stakeholders and project teams. Qualifications: Essential: Bachelor’s or master’s degree in systems engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Strong knowledge of rail systems and PACIS functionalities. Experience in systems engineering, including requirement gathering and architecture design. Familiarity with safety-critical systems and compliance standards (e.g., EN 50128, EN 50129, IEC 61508). Preferred: Experience with prototyping tools and simulation platforms. Knowledge of communication protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, CAN, RS485). Proficiency in the integration of hardware and software components. Understanding of rail domain technologies, such as TCMS and signalling systems. Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and presentation abilities (German language is mandatory). Attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality deliverables. Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
