Your mission
You are going to lead the Energy Services team, which is responsible for combining and recombining the most important insights and requirements into data-driven energy products we can offer to all customers of 1KOMMA5° through our intelligent energy manager “Heartbeat AI”.
You will be contributing to your team's success by leading with your substantial prior software engineering experience in the energy industry and energy markets, with a strong sense for innovation and a product-driven software development mindset. You know what “good enough” looks like, while delivering scalable, resilient and reliable services embedded in our product landscape.
Key responsibilities include:
* Forging new and interesting energy products, especially with Intraday in the Virtual Power Plant (VPP) space, collaboratively with product managers, data engineers, and data scientists
* Understand challenges, support discoveries, integrate requirements and create solutions our customers love, while working together with people from all over the organization
* Leverage your prior experience and knowledge to inform the strategic decision making of your team and the organization, especially when it comes to difficult decisions in between engineering excellence, product-market fit and delivery pressure
* Foster a culture of understanding, comradery, empathy and trust while championing experiment-driven innovation within the team
* Work across your boundaries and interact in close collaboration with our stakeholders and other teams
* Ensure the continued and long-term viability of all services your team is responsible for

Your profile
The successful candidate will have:
* Led a cross-functional team of enthusiastic software engineers, data scientists and market experts before
* Substantial competence in building virtual power plant software infrastructure, including the integration into energy markets (day-ahead, intraday, flexibility markets, etc)
* Hands-on experience working with interfaces in the context of energy products (e.g., smart meters, energy optimization, load balancing) and third-party SaaS providers in the energy industry
* An agile and product-oriented mindset with a strong sense for building the “right thing” that allows us to deliver on time and with excellence
* Extensive knowledge of various architectural patterns and experience implementing them with CI/CD using GitHub Actions and Google Cloud infrastructure
* Tenacity for maintainable, documented, reusable, and testable code
* A finger on the pulse of software engineering trends and industry best practices
* A proven track record as a team player and champion of our values
* Very strong written and spoken English skills, German is a plus
Bonus points for:
* Experience with IaC (ideally Terraform)
* Experience with IoT applications for grid balancing and demand response
* Experience in building, maintaining and integrating an Energy Management Service product
