What you’ll do
SAP aims to develop an Open Reference Architecture (ORA) for a secure and sustainable cloud edge infrastructure that includes intelligent optimization methods for data transparency and security. This reference infrastructure, inspired by the EU IPCEI-CIS program, shall be the basis for future software development and a prerequisite for a pan-European cloud edge infrastructure.
SAP will be working on the publicly funded project with both experienced employees from its existing workforce but also new hires. Therefore, we are looking for suitable candidates. If you are interested in Cloud Operating System development and operation, the usage and further development of Open-Source solutions and standards, interoperability, efficiency, and sustainability you should consider applying.
About the role
Step into the dynamic world of open source with our team! Garden Linux is SAP’s tailored and hardened Debian based Linux derivative for cloud native applications. As (Senior) Linux Maintainer / Software Engineer in the team, you will be part of the engineering team and working on lots of thrilling tasks across the full stack. The focus of the role is on helping users with technical problems, but additionally you will contribute to our quality and operations activities.
As a (Senior) Linux Maintainer / (Senior) Software Engineer (f/m/d) for the “Garden Linux” Team, you will:
* Maintain Garden Linux by building new features or addressing issues.
* Develop new features to enhance Garden Linux capabilities.
* Represent Garden Linux in SAP events and open-source community meetups.
What you bring
* Experience working with Linux-based systems.
* Experience with Cloud Platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP.
* Comfortable with Continuous Integration systems.
* Hands-on experience with troubleshooting Linux issues.
* Strong problem-solving skills and empathy for the customer.
* Willingness to develop skills and work in the direction of quality and operations (e.g., development & execution of tests, reproducing issues...).
* Fluency in English is mandatory, Fluency in German is preferred.
* Valid Linux Foundation certifications or at least completed trainings are an advantage.
* Knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized applications is nice to have.
* Hands-on experience with Linux containers is a plus.
* Experience with Debian, bash, python, C, GitHub Actions is preferred.
