The Logistics Engineering Team develops Zalando’s own Warehouse Management System that ensures on-time delivery of millions of parcels every week from more than 12 facilities. As a Principal Software Engineer in Logistics Engineering, you will be responsible for defining and designing the target architecture of our Warehouse Management System in alignment with Product, Management, and the delivery teams. You will support the teams with experience and best practices to find the best solutions, review and challenge solution proposals, and make sure that our products remain extensible in the future. By proactively establishing best practices and patterns along the Software Development Lifecycle you make sure that teams deliver high quality and architecturally consistent software. WHERE YOUR EXPERTISE IS NEEDED Define the target architecture in alignment with Engineering Teams, other Principal Engineers, and Product Set high standards in solution design review, system integration and production readiness. Support and guide teams in post mortem process Create flexible and scalable solutions to enable new products to be covered by our WMS, drive new projects end to end, coordinating with stakeholders, engineering teams, and management Pair with other engineers focusing on best practices, design patterns, and system design Facilitate communication and decision-making across teams and Engineering Management You’re a go-to person for Product and Engineering Management for the systems within your department and you’re consulted on projects before they’re initiated and given to the teams for delivery Deep knowledge in relevant AWS services and/or Kubernetes experience is a plus WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR Exceptional experience in designing, developing and operating business-critical distributed systems at scale 10 years of recent industry experience as a Senior Software Engineer Deep understanding of modern API design practices and standards, and proven experience of JVM-based technologies (Kotlin knowledge is a plus) in a cloud environment. Experience with complex microservice and event-driven architectures, and their observability. Thorough knowledge of different layers of a software stack and able to get hands-on in all of them when needed. Experience with Domain Driven Design Leadership skills to inspire delivery teams and influence development across teams and departments.
