The Health & Safety Engineer is responsible for supporting the business units on all issues relating to occupational safety, health protection and accident prevention.
Fulfilment of all tasks according to §6 ASiG in a biochemical / biological manufacturing facility.
Implementation, management and monitoring of HS programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance to German legislation and Meridians HS standards and guidelines.
Evaluation of the organization's procedures, facilities, and equipment by conducting inspections to identify unsafe conditions and to implement safeguards and solutions
Completion and further development of risk assessments according to ArbSchG and BetrSichV
Creation, updating and maintenance of operating and work instructions based on risk assessments
Designing workplaces and work processes to achieve efficient ergonomics
Creation, review, up-date and control of the companies SDS in accordance with GHS
Identifying and assessing work-related accident and health hazards and health promotion factors
Collaborate with employees and supervisors to identify and mitigate HS risks.
Continuously improving the safety and health of all employees and up-dating the HS system
Training and coaching of employees, supervisor, and safety officers to continuously improve HS performance
Maintaining a thorough up to date knowledge of relevant laws, standards and regulations that impacts or may impact Meridian business

Works closely with: All other departments on side

Reports To: Director QA / RA
Responsibilities May Include:
Close collaboration with Health & Safety Experts at other meridian sites
Identification and implementation KPIs for measuring and monitoring the HS processes to drive continuous improvement
Leading or supporting as team player general improvement programs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Profound technical understanding of equipment used in biochemical manufacturing
Profound chemical / biochemical knowledge
Knowledge and understanding of GHS and CLP.
Confident handling of MS office applications
High proficiency in German and English
Ability to contribute outside one's field and at a Project Team Representative level.
Ability to work in a team as well as in a structured and independent manner
Thorough up to date knowledge of relevant laws, standards and regulations that impacts or may impact Meridian business
Education and Experience:
University degree in a technical field, preferably as safety engineer, or a comparable professional training (e.g., as a state-certified technician or master-craftsperson).
Training as "Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit
At least 2 years professional experience as HS professional in manufacturing industry preferably as Sicherheits Fachkraft.
